FAQ
Answers to some frequently-asked questions about
short-term and intermediate-term health insurance.

How Soon Can My Coverage Begin?
For Short-Term health insurance and Intermediate-Term health insurance, your coverage can begin as early as 12:01 a.m. the next day after the transmission date. However, the applicant can choose a later effective date, not to exceed 60 days from transmission date.

I Need Payment Flexibility (to quickly start, stop, or extend coverage).

The Short-Term health insurance and Temporary (Intermediate-Term) health insurance plans found here have very flexible payment provisions. If you select a month-to-month payment option, then you are able to stop or extend coverage in a manner that best fits your needs.

If you apply on-line and payment is by credit card, the hard copy application does not have to be mailed, but the applicant should print a hard copy for his/her records. Acknowledgment of the applicant's name for credit card payment suffices as a signature under e-commerce law.

If your payment is by check, money order, or automatic check withdrawal, the hard copy of the application does not have to be mailed. However, the initial payment must be mailed in by check (along with a voided check if bank draft is preferred). Please note your social security number on your initial payment check. Important: The initial payment must be received by the company within 10 days from the transmission date or coverage is void.

You may contact your plan administrator at any time to change your payment option.

  What Are the Refund Provisions?

Refund provisions may vary by State. Typically you may return a Short-Term or Temporary policy within 10 days of delivery for a premium refund. Application fees (if any) are usually non-refundable.

What If I'm A Non- US Citizen?
Some of the plans here require US citizenship. Other plans here will cover non-US citizens who have been living in the USA for at least one or two years, with a Social Security Number, or proof of Alien Registration Receipt Card, Green Card, Visa or other appropriate documentation.

If you've been a US resident for less than 12 months, check out our International Health Insurance website for plans designed especially for Recent US Immigrants.
